FALL INTO BOILING POOL

AUCKLAND, March 28. A serious accident happened to Mr. Rollit, of Wellington, at Tokaanu on Saturday’evening. He was on. his way to a hot bath by himself, when, getting on the wrong track in the darkness, he fell into one of the large boiling pools beside it, and was severely scalded. Fortunately some friends were close by and rescued him, and conveyed lnm to the hotel, where a visiting doctor attended to liis* injuries.

THE MINISTER FOR LABOR

PAHIATUA, March 29. The Hon. A. W. Hogg, Minister for Labor and for Roads and Bridges, visited Bahiatua. to-day, and after receivin0 * deputations from the Chamber of Commerce and County Council, pioceeded to Makuri. He proceeds to Pongaroa to-morrow, and to Webei on Wednesday.

ADDINGTON' WOBKSHOPS INQUIRY.

CHRISTCHURCH, March 29. The Addington workshops inquiry was resumed to-day, when Messrs T. Ronaync (general manager) and A. L. Beattie (locomotive superintendent) answered a.number of questions put by the chairman, arising out o, tlie evidence previously taken. To-morrow Mr Hampton will address the Commission on behalf of the men, and Mr. Beattie will giye evidence.

A SCHOLARSHIP APPOINTMENT

The Canterbury College Board of Governors to-day appointed Mr. Norman Murray Bell, M.A., to hold the first Trinity College Cambridge, Scholarship, the 'institution of which was hwreed to by the Board recently on representations made by Professor Haslam. VICTORIA COLLEGE COUNCIL. : WELLINGTON, March 29. The Hon. Dr. Findlay (Education Board’s representative), Mr. Charles Wilson (Parliamentary representative), and Mr. C. Watson (teachers’ representative) have been selected unopposed to the Victoria College Council. Sir Robert Stout (graduates’ representative) did not stand,-for re-election, and Mr. J- G. W. Aitlccn has been elected without opposition in his place.
