THE NIMROD.
PROFESSOR DAVID WELCOMED AT SYDNEY. United Press Association— Copyright. SYDNEY, March 30. Notwithstanding the early hour of the Maheno’s arrival (5 a.m.), a large gathering of friends and undergraduates gave Professor David a rousing welcome. An official welcome was arranged for later in the day. (Received March 31, 12.30 a.iif.) SYDNEY, March 30. Professor David, speaking at an enthusiastic gathering at the University, paid a high tribute to Lieut. Shackleton and Captain Evans. He especially praised the latter’s fine seamanship, stating that after Providence, they all owed their lives very largely to the Captain of the Nimrod. LIEUTENANT SHACKLETON’S INTENTIONS. WELLINGTON, March 30. Lieutenant Sliackleton says that he has made no arrangements for another expedition, but if even he does it will be from the other side of the world, from the Falkland Islands and South America. About this side nearly all worth knowing is now known, it is, the other side that is unexplored. He had no intention at present of lecturing in Australia, but it is not iinlikely lie will do so at Home. He intends leaving New Zealand on April 15. During the day he called on the Premier, thanked him for the assistance rendered bv the Government, and informed him that the Dominion stamps presented by the Government had been lodged in a cylinder and left at the furthest south point reached.
WELLINGTON, March 30. Lieutenat Sliackleton will deliver a lecture in Wellington on April 4.
