A WELLINGTON FIRE.
LARGE BOARDING-HOUSE DESTROYED. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON. Mar. 30. At about 1 o’clock this morning, while a wintry st-orm was sweeping over the citv, a fire broke out m a boardinghouse “in Taranaki Place, owned by Mr Y. W. Hislop, and occupied by Mr William Brown, who had between 30 a~nd 40 fcoarders. The Hatter dost everything except the scanty attire they escaped in. The building was destroyed and much damage also done to John Pugg and Co.’s chocolate and confectionery factory. During a sticnnons fffilit to prevent the fire demolishing the whole block, which is m the •liefrS of the several firennm aeceived minor injuries. Ihe bo? rding house was insured for LoOO m the Commercial Union Office, and for xW the Liverpool, London anct Globe Office The contents wore msuied foi £SOO in the" New Zealand Office. Rigg and Co.’s promises wore insured for £1250 in the Commercial. Union, and £520 in tho Standard and the contents tor £4OOO in various offlcco.
