CHALLENGE MATCH
A keenly-contested and very interesting matoh took place yesterday afternoon on the green of the Gisborne Club, between the Press team and one representing the licensed victuallers. The. latter won by three points. The following were the teams and scoresLicensed Victuallers.—A.. -Zachamh, J. A. Lucas, F. Harris, J. J. Martin (skip) 19. ; Press. —F. Farrell, T. Clarkson, A. J. Benzie, M. G; Nasmith, junr. (skip) 16. '• ■ •
On the first eight- heads only nine points were scored, the Press team being 5 to- 4. They then gained a strong lead, and on the 12th head were 12 to 4. -The licensed victuallers obtained 4 on the 13th head, and thenceforward did most of the scoring. On the 19th head, by scoring another 4, they gained the lead, being 17 to their opponents’ 15. On the next head they scored a couple, leaving the Press four to get in order to tie. On the final head the Press scored fa single, -one bowl of Lucas’ preventing them from scoring five. .
