BOWLING.
GISBORNE CLUB. A meeting of the committee, of tlie Gisborne Bowling Club was held yesterday. there being present-: Messrs W. F. Pettie (chairman), T. Corson, . W, Brady, T. A. Crawford, T. Clarkson, and C. H. Ambridge (secretary). A suggestion was received from the Turanganui dub to the effect that the return match between the two clubs should take place on Easter Monday. It was considered advisable that the annual shield matches should be commenced on fliat date, if possible, and it was therefore decided to suggest Thursday, April 22, for the inter-club contest. The question of the locality was left with the presidents of £he two clubs to arrange. Sub-committees were appointed to make the necessary arrangements for the shield matches. A discussion took place on the best method of improving the green at present being used for play, which is to be given a rest shortly. Ultimately the ground committee was authorised to obtain, an expert opinion as to the best course to be followed. It was decided that entries for the Colts’ Singles match should close on Saturday next, and that only this season’s .players. should be allowed to compete. A trophy to be competed for in this match has been presented by Mr. H. Lewis. The committee of the Gisborne Bowling Club was sorely chagrined yesterday afternoon when it was found that as some of the skips in the Martin medals competition had not “turned up,” it was impossible to get off any of the matches. It had been hoped that all could have been decided yesterday afternoon. It is likely that the match committee will .insist upon the- scratching of all teams which have not played off by an early date. .
