GISBORNE LADIES’ CLUB v. REBEKAH LODGE.

Teams representing the above clubs met at Victoria Domain yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Miss M. (Somervell' captained the Lodge team, - and Miss E.- Fromm the Ladies’ Club. Notwithstanding the fact that some of the Lodge players were inexperienced, the. game proved very interesting, and resulted in a wiii for the Gisborne Ladies’ Club by 1 goal (scored by Miss V. Valters) to nil. For the Ladies’ team Misses McDonald, and Fromm (backs) and Misses Cockerill (wing) and Walters (forward) played well, and reproduced the good form they showed last season. For the Lodge team. Misses D: Osborne and M. Somervell played best, and were especially good on defence. Mr. J. Doyle was referee. CITY v. CIVIL SERVANTS. The -above teams had a practice game at Victoria . Domain yesterday afternoon, taking the field immediately after the conclusion of the ladies’ game. This game also moved fast and interesting, and judging by the form shown generally, the standard of , play this season should he considerably above that of last year. The Civil Service team made their first appearance on the hockey field in this match, and with a little more combination and form >■ the team should give a good account of themselves as the season progresses. City had the assistance of Roderick and Tabernacle, which considerab y strengthened their side, and probably accounted for their victory by 2 goals to 1. Grinlinton scored both goals for City, while Bristow put the ball through for' the Civil Servants. Armstrong, Nicholas, Cockerill, Grinhnton, ■and Corbett showed best form for City; while Mulvihill (back), Hargreaves, Stagpoole, (Sissons, and Barker were the most conspicuous for the Civil Service team. Mr. W. Lewis refereed the game.
