PRACTICE MATCH

A practice match was played on the Victoria Domain yesterday, in view of the selection of teams to play against the Auckland team on Thursday and Saturday of next week, and on Easter Monday and Tuesday. As on Saturday, last, there was a disappointing attendance of senior players, only twelve men attending. Sides were chosen by Hallamore and Gibson. The latucr’s side batted first, and totalled 93, W. H. Wack (44) and Gibson (35) being responsible for the hulk of the runs. Hallamore’s team responded with 54, J. Lang (23) being the only batsman to reach doub.e figures. Gibson's team, in their second essay with the bat, totalled 78,. W. H. Wack giving a fine, display for 58. In their second innings, Hallamore’s team totalled 76, the captain being top scorer with 33. Manning, Mills, Moore, Hallamore, arid J. Lang did the bowling for Hallamore’s team, the last-named being the most successful with three for 23. For Gibson’s side, W. H. Wack, Gibson, J. H. Wack, Olsen, and Barker divided tlie wickets. It is a pity that more players do not avail themselves of the opportunity of netting into form fo r the forthcoming matches with Auckland. The northem:ers are sending down a strong side, and few of the local players are in anything like good form. It is to be hoped that every effort will bo made in the short time remaining to get as much net practice as possible. Fielding practice is also required, and it would, be a good idea if one or two evenings were devoted exclusively to this important department of the game. A trial match will be played at Victoria Domain to-morrow afternoon, commencing at 2 o’clock, when it is to be hoped there will be a full muster of candidates for places in the elevens to meet the Auckland team.
