In reference to the Sydney cable message telling of the exciting chase and capture of a burglar, the man Croke enLeied on a criminal career at an early age. He is only 23 years of age, but five years ago was convicted of a serious crime, be mg sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment for breaking and entering the premises of Warnock and Adkin, “'Wellington, and stealing £SO worth of drapery. In December, 1005, he was sent to gaol on three charges of theft, hut escaped fi£>m custody in the following month, for which he received an additional six months. He was liberated from Lyttelton gaol only last November. He is a native of London, and was-a seaman by calling.
