A TRIAL FOR MANSLAUGHTER.

; SYDNEY, April 6. •'The trial of Bryant on a charge of manslaughter in connection with the collision between/the steamer DUrimore and a naval pinnace, on January sth, resulted in a verdict of not guilty. The judge, in discharging Bryant, said: “This man did the best ho could in the circumstances. "Bo far from being blameable, lie is worthy of a great deal of commendation for not doing something which might have involved oveiturning the two boats. [Samuel Bryant, a man-of-warsman, was in charge of a launch, belonging to H.M.S. Encounter, which, with a pinnace in tow, was proceeding from Garden Island to the ship, when the steamer Dunmore collided with the pinnace, and upset it. Fifteen bluejackets wbre drowned. The Marine Court of Inquiry held that -the disaster had been caused by Bryant crossing the bows of the Dunmore,'' and by the . captain of that steamer not keeping a proper look-out. Bryant was afterwards committed for trial.]
