MAKAURI SCHOOL
CONCERT AND PRIZE DISTRIBUTION. A very successful and enjoyable concert was held in.the Makauri School last evening. The school house was packed to the doors by a large and enthusiastic audience. Songs were given by the following; Misj Faubcrt, and Messrs Barlow, Lockie, Brown, Woodward, Brownlee, and Master L. Skeet. Airs. Grayson, Miss Akroyd, and Mr Ellis played the accompaniments in an-efficient manner. Recitations were given by Messrs Watt,. Rev. Graham, and Mr. Johnston Brown. Mr. Johnston Brown’s recitation ‘‘Old Mother Hubbard” brought down the house. The programme was followed by the distribution of prizes, after which a dance took place. Special mention was made by the chairman of the school committee, Mr. J. C. Field, regarding Miss Beatrice Butterfield, who'has earned distinction by being placed head of the scholarship list for the Hawke’s Bay educational district. Mr. Field paid high tribute to Miss Butterfield’s ability and to the careful tuition given her by Mr, J. Wauchop. The Rev. Mr. Butterfield also spoke in glowing terms of Mr. Wauchop’s ability as a teacher.
