MATAWHERO STOCK SALES. A duU market met sellers of sheep and cattle at the usual weekly sale of stock held ot Matawhero on Thursday. Che yarding of sheep was smaller than usual consequent probably upon the holidays, but the cattle pens were well filled. ‘Buyers seemed to be all supplied with winter ewes, and few pens reacned Ir'ub market- prices. Most of the sheep Ivuvd-p'-ared to be in good condition. and it was apparent tnat scarcity of feed could not be pleaded as an excuse for the moderate quotations. Wethr-rs and lambs sold well, anu there W3.s o, tan* aemand for butchsr s cattle. SHEEP. The yarding of sheep totalled -about 7.000, the larger portion being offered bv Messrs Dalgety and Co. and Messrs Common. Shelton and Co. while Messrs Williams and Kettle. Murray P'harts and Co., and the Loan -and Mercantile Co. yarded about 1500 between them. - Most of the pens were sold under tne hammer. Good conditioned ewes realise! recent prices, but old ewes and stores were almost discarded. A pen of 550 2 and 4-tooth wethers send 9s 9d 50 two-tooth wethers sold a l 250 at 9s lid, 211 at 9s lOd, 9 at 9s id, and a choice pen of 22S store wethers of mixed ages at 9s. A pen of o-sound-mouthed forward ewes sold at 7s 6d, 32 prime fat ewes at 9s. 3l fat owes at Ss 4d, while breeamg ewes sold 305 at 5s 3d. 21 at 5s 3d and 69 at 3s. with a few. small lots at intermediate prices. The lambs yaremd included a fine consignment of <OO from the Rakauroa district, which veie cleared at satisfactory prices m lots to suit buyers, the average price being 7-s Gd. Other pens were 106 at 4s 4d, 4 Sat 4s 9d, 201 at 6s od, o 9 at os 9d, 46 at 4s Sd, with small pens at prices ranging from Is 10d to 3s 6d. CATTLE. The cattle pens hold about 450 head including some choice butchers' supplies which drew good competition, b forward bullocks sold at- £4 10s, 4 at ~4, 2 fat bullocks at £4 15s, 4 store bullocks at- £3 10s, while the stores weie all cleared at recent prices. PIGS. The pig pens contained only 3 weaners, which sold in two lots at 10s each.
