Admiral Smith-Dorrien, at a Conservative meeting, declared that the late :Sir Henry Campbell Bannerman’s remains should be banged in Trafalgar Square, because he had betrayed his country. Several Radicals urgently sought to discuss the language in the House of Commons. The speaker refused, on the ground tliat a retired admiral was beyond official control.
