During a strike of 12,000 buttonmakers at Merit, France, demanding a •uniform wage., 600 strikers attacked and wrecked two factories, and stormed tho manufacturers’ dwelling-houses. The owner, his wire and servants fled' in their nightdresses by a back door. Next morning 200 dragoons had a sori..•ous conflict with the strikers. Several of the troops were wounded with stones. A thousand cavalry have been sent to Meru.
