UNIVERSAL MILITARY SERVICE
Heroics are all very well about British sea supremacy, but on the maintenance of that predominance, we can at best be only imperfectly informed, and can never have voice. The very best service this and other countries could render to the Motherland would be to free her from anxiety concerning their safety in the hour of her own peril. It would be the best thing we could do for ourselves as well. Certainly it is our duty to do all we possibly can to help the Navy, but, having done that, having made every reasonable sacrifice, there still remains the necessity of being able to protect our own homes. Tlie public only want a lead in this matter. —Wellington “Times.”
