AN EASTER CAMP BUNGLE.

INDIGNATION IN CHRISTCHURCH

CHRISTCHURCH, April 13

Intense indignation is felt in volunteering circles relative to the bungle which occurred in connection with the transport of troops to and from Mt. Somers, where the Easter manoeuvres were held, and Lieutenant-Colonel Smith, M.L.C., in. command of tho infantry battalion, has sent the following telegrams to the Government: “Right Hon. Sir Joseph Ward, Wellington,—The treatment of the troops at the Easter manoeuvres by the railway officials here was disgraceful. In the interests of the defence forces 1 have wired to the Minister of Railways asking for an inquiry, and trust you will support the application as Minister of Defence.”

“Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister of Railways, Wellington,—The treatment of the troops at the Easter manoeuvres by the railway officials here was disgraceful. My complaint refers to the traffic manager, station master, and chief traffic clerk. In-the interests of the defence forces I ask for an inquiry as to the management of traffic and the discourtesy of these officials. lam wiring the Premier, as Minister of Defence, on the matter.”
