AUCKLAND V. POVERTY BAY. REPRESENTATIVE MATCH. The sky was overcast, and there was a bitterly cold wind blowing across- the Domain when play in the representative fixture between Auckland and I oyerty Bay' was resumed yesterday morning. W.' Gibson and J. Gibson, the two not out men overnight, _took their stand at the wickets, but with the addition ot five runs to the total the latter was given out lbw to Howden, 50—3 —1. Babbs- joined W. Gibson, but the latter, who had .been-shaping-confidently, was caught by Hussey close to the ground at mid-on, off Howden,. 51 —4 —22. Hallamore followed, and played an over from Howden, but in Hussey’s next over Babbs was given out lbw, 55—5 —3. Lasker joined his captain and in hitting out to Howden was missed in the deep field by Sale: and Prime in turn. Runs came slowly, and at 67 Howden clean bowled Hallamoro with a nice leg break, 67 —7—9. Harker joined Lasker, but with five more runs on the board Lasker was unfortunate in playing a ball from Howden on to his wicket, 72 —7—9. Glennie was next, and livened matters up by hitting Howden for 4 and 1 off the first two balls. Robinson missed an easy chance of stumping him off Howden’s next ball, and a few moments later the same bowler found Barker’s off-stump with a fast delivery, 77 —B—o. Adamson followed and was missed at square leg by Andrew off the first ball he received from Hussey. Both Glennie and Adamson batted confidently and _ the deficit on the first- innings was wiped off by means of a nice leg hit for four by Adamson. AA 7 itli tho total at 97 Coleman replaced Hussey, and with a four to leg Glennie sent 100 up on the scoring .board. He missed a short-pitched ball' from Coleman and immediately afterwards was caught at short log by Clist for a woll-plaved 18 ; 103—9—18. Barker was the last man in, and Adamson, opening out, hit Howden for 2, 2, and 4, off successive balls. He was however rurA out a. few balls later through a. misunderstanding with his partner. The innings closed for a-.-total of 110. Howden was the most successful bowler, obtaining 5 wickets for 43 Requiring 22 to win, (list and McMahon opened Auckland’s second innings to the bowling of Barker and Babbs. McMahon gave Harker a chance in the slips which was not •accepted, and nil Babbs’ first o\ ci Clist was out lbw, 2—l—o. Howden followed, but after making 3 was clean bowled by Babbs, 10—2 3. Sa.c joined McMahon, who was batting well, and the pair batted steadily for a time, runs coming slowly. McMahon made the winning hit off Babbs, and next over Hall a more took the ball from Barker. The batsmen became much more aggressive and carried the score to 41. when in attempting a short run Sale was smartly thrown out by Bowman, 41—3—11. Andrew was next man, and he and McMahon wcie together at the luncheon adjournament, with tho score at 47 for 3 wickets. After lunch the sun shone out making it much more pleasant for pm> • Hallamoro and Glennie took lip the attack, and Adamson badly missed Andrew at short leg off the latter bowle.r. At 65 AV. Harker replaced Glennie, but the centurv was hoisted quickly Bowman missed an easy chance of stumping McMahon aud a moment or two later bad a chance to catch 1 nine at tlm wickets. Several changes of bovling were tried, but the batsmen defied all comers, until Babbs cleaned bowled McMahon for a prettily compiled bo, 141 1_,5 65. Hussey followed, and the scoring became even more rapid. Prime hit tourer after tourer, and Hussey o*ot in some, splendid drives. J. 'Gibson, Lasker, and Barker each had a turn with the ball, and off the latter s third delivery Hussey mishit him and was caught by Barker at mid-off. 187—6 19 Eastgate then came in. and both he’ aud Prime played sound and vigorous cricket. Prime was eventually stumped by Bowman off Lasker, altci giving a vigorous display of hitting tor his score. 208—7—74.
