RAILWAY WORKS STOPPAGE

TRADE AND LABOR COUNCIL'S OPINION. The Otago Trades and Labor Council. at a meeting on Thursday night, considered the question of the stoppage of the LawreneeRoxburgh railway works, and p'assed a resolution expressing the opinion that—a breach of faith had been committed by the Ministry in stopping work after construction had been sanctioned by Parliament, and after leading people in the district to incur expenditure in anticipation of the early construction of the line. The Council coiu dcrs that tlie promises made should he honorable carried out, and expects members of Parliament to see this: done. In the opinion of the Council, no valid reason has. been shown for stoppage of the works.
