OPENING OF SEASON AT TVELLiocnON. [Pee Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 18. The football season opened yesterday with a seven-a-side tournament, under the auspices of the Wellington Rugby Union. About two thousand persons were present, and most of the leading footballers took part in the games. The senior competition was won by the Old Boys. Abercrombie, of the Wellington Club’s team, in attempting to throw himself on the ball to prevent S. James scoring, had the misfortune to break his shoulder.
TE Tv Alt AKA CLUB. The annual meeting of the To Karaka Football Club was held at the Karaka hotel on Friday night, Mr MeCredie taking the chair. The balance sheet showed a credit of £3 13s 2d from last season. This was considered very satisfactory, the Club having purchased 18 pale blue jerseys last year, as club property to be distributed to the players whenever a match is played. The club also affiliated with the P.B. Rugby Union. The election of officers took place- and resulted as follows: President,'Mr. Jas. Rettie (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs Armstrong. 0. Monckton, TV. Lewis, A. M. Lewis, Clias. Good, H. Jackson, D. J. Barry, F. Evinson, J. T. Cassidy, M. McMahon, Jas. MeCredie, Jas. Poyntcr, Holdsworth Bros., Eucsoi, and Rev. Father Dignan ; general committee, Messrs J. Gregary, F. Morgan, N. Law, TV. Nisbett, P. J. Sefton, B. Ilughes, and T. Crimmin; ground eommittee, Messrs F. Evinson. TV. Lewis, and J. MeCredie; club. captain, L. TVogan (re-elected); riice-captain, T. Crimmin; selection'-committee, Messrs P. J. Sefton, TV. Lewis, and L. TVofa-n ; secretary and treasurer, Air. T. Crimmin (re-elected).
Air. Johnston, in event of his being agreeable, was elected delegate to the Union. A letter was received from the.-secre-tary of the Whatatutu sub union, asking Karaka if they were going to join their Union. Before replying it was decided to await the decision of the P.B.R.U. regarding districts.. . • The season is to he opened with a match Pakelias v. Maoris, as soon as & ground is available, the ground committee being instructed to look round for a suitable ground. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr and Airs Mc-Credie for their kindness in presenting the club with a football pump, and -a set of line flags, and also to Air A. M. Lewis for' a football presented last season. :f - : New members were* elected as follows: E. Bust, -J. Stewart, R. Woodrow, H. Brown. TV. Kiefer. Ai. Ryan, N. Symes. B. Hosier, and AI. Riddick.

Hepburn; secretary and treasurer, I. Simpson. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs D. Miller and F Auld was elected to decide on the co’ors of the club. The. Wellington Association colors were thought to be suitable, and a sample has been sent for, on which the subcommittee will consider and report. It was decided that the subscription should be 2s,and that a senior and junior team shorn! bo entered in the Poverty Bay Rugby Union matches.
