The following cablegram was published in Sydney on Saturday, April 3rd: “The American wrestler Gotch lias signed articles to meet the Russian Hackenselimidt in Melbourne next January for a purse of 13,000d01. (£2000).” file information referred to brought the following from Melbourne, dated Sunday:— , “Mr E. F. Baker, a member ot the syndicate which has arranged the meeting of Hackenschimdt and Gotch for the wrestling Championship of the World, states' that the contest will be for a stake of £6500, not £2OOO, as stated in tho cattles. They had to guarantee a certain sum for appealance money, and this has probably been confused with the stake money. Gotch and Hackenschmidt will, apart from the match,, be under a contract to the syndicate to show under their management for three months, with the option of an extension of the contract for a further period of three months. “The place where the match -will take place is not stipulated. It con’d be either Sydney or Melbourne-. Tho syndicate has determined to retain tho biograph rights of the match. The contest wherever held, will be in the open air. ~
Hackenschmidt has informed the promoters that he will leave South Africa On December 14, and will arrive in Melbourne about January 3.
