DEFENCE MATTERS
fVc believe that before long a- citizen' army will'be established for the defence of the Empire. 'ln actual warfare, it matters hot whether a'man' steps out with his right or his left foot, So long as he is a good marksman,. and there is no question that a great deal of time and money have been wasted in the past-by all, nations'in training men to march to perfection on parade, accord-? ing to antiquated-ideas, when; the time, and money would have-been better , spent in training men ■in the use: of arms. What we want in .New Zealand is an adequate stock hi. rifiesiymd ammunition ,and every facility for target practice. . Experts should.also be employed in each district to train citizens in" file -use of arms, and .whether the system is compulsory or otherwise, it will- put the defence of- the. country on a safer footing.—“Temuka Leader.” ‘ .
