Captain C. Hellier Evans received advice yesterday that Sergeant H. LEllis luis been awarded a long-service medal. , T , Mr. R. Griffon, of the firm of John Griffon, contractor, of Napier, arrived by the s.s. Monoivai yesterday morning, and proceeds to Tologa Bay by coach this morning to superintend the construction of the bridge over the •Mangah<#n river for the Cook Countv Council Mr. Griffon is accompanied hv Mr R. Forbes, of the same firm. Mr J 0. G lee son, of Napier, proceeds to Australia this week, where lie connects with the boat for England. Mr. Gleeson intends contesting one or the Irish seats for the House of Commons. and rumor has it that his election is practically assured.
