THE VALUATION OF A BOROUGH —A PROTEST.

FEILDIXO, April 24. As a result of a public meeting last night, protesting against the valuation of the Borough,'the Council, at a special meeting to-day, met the officer* of the Vaulation Department, and asked for an all-round pro rata reduction. The officers refused to recommend this. The Council passed a motion to take stops! to object to the whole of tlm valuations before the Assessment Couit. Dawson and C’o.’s premises, in Prince’s Street, was entered by burglars last night, and £2OO worth "f jewellery, mostly bracelets and brooches Jewellery, amounting to £30,000 worth, was in the safe, which was not tampered with.
