MANGAPAPA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
THE ANNUAL REPORT
The following is the annual report of the Mangapapa School Committee to lie presented at the annual meeting of householders to-night:—Your Committee have much pleasure in presenting their report for the year ending 31st March. Since the last annual meeting the much needed additional school accommodation has. been provided. an infant room capable of holding over 100 has been completed and teaching can now be carried on and. scholars. At the commencement ot the year the number of scholars on the roll was 174.’ it now stands at 204. showing an increase of 30. The average attendance reported last year was 157, this year it is over 180. The school is now entitled to two extra assistant teachers. Miss Ambridge is acting as relieving teacher. Several improvements and additions have been carried out during the year to the playground. 'Ladders and see-saw have been added to the apparatus, a concert having been held to provide funds for the same. The footpaths and gardens have been edged with timber, and -with the assistance of a grant ot £lO from the Education Board, the committee have had a contract completed for thoroughly draining the grounds surrounding the school. The fences have been put into good repair, the school buildings and furniture are in good order, dual desks have been provided by the Board for the higher standards. The older part of the school buildings much require re-painting. IB presentations were made to the Inspector on his lastvisit, as to the need ior a partition in the new infant room. Owing to the generous assistance of the ladies and residents of the district, the committee were enabled to give the scholars their annual picnic, and also to provide prizes and ineda’s for attendance, etc., leaving a small credit balance in the hands of the treasurer. The school continues to receive good reports from the inspector, and is to bo congratulated upon the fact that out of two National scholarships allowed to the Hawke's Bay Education district, tho Mangapapa school obtained one. During the year Bible instruction hasbeen given on Friday mornings from 9 ti> 0.30 bv voluntary teachers, and without interference with the regular school hours. The income for tho year is as follows: Grants for incidental ip posas-.
