BREACH OF A BYE-LAW
Frank J. Cowl rick was. charged with a breach of the Borough bye-laws in leaving an obstruction on the roadway without lights at night. - .Sergeant Hutton prosecuted aiid said the -obstruction was dangerous to traffic.
His ’Worship inflicted a fine of' 10s with 7s costs. ARREARS OF MAINTENANCE.
Lena Johnson proceeded against Charles Johnston for £1 10s arrears of payments due on a maintenance order issued by the Court. Defendant-said he had no money and was out of. work. Lie had 'work to go to at Wharekopae. He came to Gisborne shortly before Christmas, where he had £l6O. He could not say how he spent that amount. Lie gave his wife £7l. He might have told his wife he would not comply with the order. Her had no money left. His Worship: “I am quite satisfied you arc determined not to comply «ih -he ord'rr. . Von. cro L .•
lie imprisoned with hard labor for. three months in the Napier gaol.” The defendant was also sentenced to three months’ imprisonment %’ failing to pay 7s Cd per week towards the support of his step child, both sentences to iun concurrently.
