MR. LYSNAR AND THE PUBLICCANS.

[To Tire Editor.] Sir, —At a meeting of the Borough. Council, souk 1 two months ago, Mr. Lysnar intimated that it was time the fees for hotel licenses wore raised, and that ho was going to move] to have them increased very considerably. .! have been, waiting for his move in this direction, and as it has not yet been announced mu: t conclude that he has deemed it uuwba to venture further

with it until after the ejection. As it entails a*, matter of policy and is of public importance in view of liis again seeking mayoral honors I think it necessary for him to place liis views before the burgesses. It is also necessary for him to inform them what attitude ho intends: taking up in regard to the licensing question. I i—oAv I can, with safety, assert that both his supporters and opponents would be pleased to lieav that while ho -occupies the Mayoral chair he) will refrain from taking an active part in this question. No one ■wants to see the Chief Magistrate _of this town making such an undignified exhibition as Tie did on the public platform during the recent 'local option contest. It will be remembered on the occasion of his first address on this subject at His Majesty’s Theatre, lie ignored the advice of the Hon. James Carroll. The pitiable sncctacle he presented in his efforts to influence the electors lowered the position of Mayor, and was the target of much adverse criticism locally and elsewhere by liis action. Now, sir, neither parties wish to see a repetition of this at •miv time from one holding! such an honorable position, and although there is not to boa local option.poll during the forthcoming mayoral term, yet the public should be assured before they support him even on this occasion what his future official attitude will be towards the publicans and their trade. — I am, etc. .—aflEß-ATE.
