SEVEN-A-SIDE MATCHES
The drizzling slioAvers of rain were against a successful opening of the football season, and very few players and spectators cared to face tlic elements. A cycle of matches of two spells of five minutes was arranged, each team playing 7 men a-skle. Star defeated Gisborne B. by 6 points to nil. United A. defeated Gisborne A. by 6 points to throe. In the semi-finals Star defeated Alhambra by 9 poiuts to 3 and X'nitcd A. defeated Kaiti-City by 3 points to nil. In the final United were again guccessful, defeating the Star team by o points to nil. The teams were, for the greater part, fathered together on the ground, and as the grass was very greasy the play Avas unlike first-class football. One or two of the players, however, showed promise of good form as the season advances..
