FOOTBALL.

OPENING OF THE SEASON

The football season will- be opened to-morrow afternoon with a match on Victoria Domain between teams representing the town and the country. The following players will represent the town:’—E. Luttrell, W. Fitzgerkl, G. Rowe, D. Miller, Kaipara, H. Kelly, A. Luttrell, Stagpooie, Newton, Delaney, Lowe, Nicolas, Pine, Winter, Scott; emergencies, J. Cramp, Witty, Clark, Bright, and Charters. The following will represent the Country : YVatene Ruru, C. Hepburn, J. Ryan, R. Campbell, Tc Reinga, H. Crowe, Wogan, W. Fisher, J. Lyons, A. McKenzie, Crimmins, M. Campbell, It. Morphy, H. Redmond, and G. Brown; emergencies, E. Evinson, W. Burrell, and G. Campbell. The above team will play in the representative colors.

POVERTY BAY RUGBY UNION

.Tlie adjourned weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Poverty “Bay Rutgbv Union was held on Wednesday night' There were present: Messrs H. E. Maude (chairman), J. Wauchop. It. O. Ingram, G. K. Paisley, J. ’A. Eaton, LI. Bright-, and E. L. Maude (secretary). _ - The Y.M.C.A. wrote requesting that the suspension on Rewai bo removed.— J.t was decided not- to grant the request.

' The Waiapu sub-milon -wrote that the - question of the date of the annual match would bo decided on May when the Union would be informed if 24th May would be suitable. The- Poverty Bay Hockey Association wrote asking for the use of the Domain on the same lines as last year. —The request was granted. The Muriwai and Te Kura Clubs were affiliated; the latter being -granted black colors and Muriwai' being asked to adopt .navy blue with white sash. The secretary was instructed to write to the Referees’ Association, inquiring If that body intended to again form this year. ■ Mr. Guilford was appointed caretaker of the grounds. The secretary and Messrs Johnston and Bright were appointed a 'Postponement Committee for cup and Thursday matches. The secretary of the High School, Christchurch, wrote requesting a donation towards the Dean testimonial Resolved that whilst deeply'sympathising with the object set out, the Union could not accede to the request. It was resolved that medalrs won some two years ago in the tournament be inscribed with winners names and forwarded to them.
