TE ARAL SETTLEMENT.
FORMATION AND METALLING OF ROADS. The following letter lias been received by Mr, T. R. Lees, chairman of tlie To .•Arai Settlers’ Association, from the Under-Secretary of the Department of ‘Lands (Mr. W. C. Kensington): “Your letter of the Bth inst. addressed to the Right Hon. Minister for Lands lias been duly /.received, and I am directed to reply that instructions have been issued to the officer in charge of the Roads Branch of the Public Works Department that all necessary road work, whether formation or metalling, on the Te Arai Settlement, is to he proceeded with. If, upon the extinction of the present authorities, that ofti r cor reports that further moneys are required to put the roads in anything like good order all I can say is that the money will be forthcoming, but this is a matter upon which the Government must be guided by tlie reports of the Roads Department and its officers.”
