PRICE OF BREAD RAISED AT ELTHAM. [Per Press Association.] "ELTHAM, May 1. Owing to the high price of flour the local bakers have raised the price of bread to Bd. per 4'b loaf, cash, 9d. if booked. GOLD RETURNS. AUCKLAND; May 1. The Auckland gold returns for tlie month of. April total £117,006, as compared with £111,729 for April of the. previous year. CUSTOMS REVENUE. The Customs revenue in Auckland for the month of April was £60,418, against £52,373 in April the previous year. Butter increased £20,000, wool £3734, and gold £7259. PRICE OF BREAD INCREASED. Tlio Auckland bakers have increased the price of bread to fourpenco the two-pound loaf. AEON SALVAGiTeXP EDITION. The Aeon salvage expedition has arrived at Christmas Island. News' received by the local syndicate is understood to confirm the previous report of the Aeon having disappeared. FARMERS’ LIFE ASSURANCE ASSURANCE ASSOCIATION. TARANAKI, May 1. At the annual meeting of tlie Taranaki Farmers’ Mutual Life Assurance Yesterday the directors report was presented showing a net insurance increase during the year from £186.914 to £194,103. The policies in force numbered 772. The premium income increased by £llO, and the cash reserves by £869 12s 6d. The fire losses during the year came to £l5O, against £755 in the preceding year.
