UNUSUAL STATE OF ACTIVITY

AUCKLAND, May 1. On Friday White Island was in an unusual state of activity. _ Immense clouds of steam were issuing. This morning dense white clouds obscured the island, but from about noon the clouds vanished, and the island appeared to revert to its normal state, though jots of black, smoke were seen issuing from tho southern end of the island? signifying there bad been recently an unusual disturbance.
