OTAGO’S WHITE ELEPHANT
Up in the north the “Auckland Star” and “Herald” have grown equally indignant, not at the stopping of the Roxburgh line, but at the wicked way the Southern folk have shamelessly plundered the State Treasury to “satisfy selfish, parochial prejudices and imaginary needs.” It is to be hoped that Otago’s indignation at the blocking up of its harmless little sink for public money will be of sufficient duration to force the Government in fairness to close down for the time being, a few more or the political vote-catch-ing branch lines.—“ The Citizen.”
