SCHOOL SOCIAL.

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. . The social and dance in aid oi' the funds of the. Gisborne School, which was held in the Garrison Hall last evening, was most successful, for. despite .the nnpropitious weather about 100. couples were present. The floor was in excellent order, and dancing was indulged in to music provided by the City Hand under Conductor Lawrence until an early hour this morning. Among those present were the Mayor (Mr. W. 1). Lvsnar), Messrs F. W. Ilia eh, 11. Wildish, and W. L. File (members of the School Committee) and Mr. F. W. Rowley (headmaster of the school. Messrs H. Miller, .J. Colley, and 11. Somervell acted as M.C.’s, and Messrs D. Cowan and It. Somervell as honorary secretaries. The ladies’ committee provided fir.st-cla.ss_ supper, aud the tables were most effectively decorated., . - . ■: . V /* CHILDREN’S BALL. To-night will be tlie children’s evening, wlion a plain and fancy dress juvenile ball will be hold in the Garrison Hall, ft is anticipated that there will bo a large attendance of young folk, as a large number of. tickets have ,been sold, and some pretty costumes -will be Worn. During the o.vening~“two dancing competitions will take- place, , for the host Irish jig and the best sailor’s hornpipe, and the winners will be pro- | ■sen ted with handsome prizes. The j catering will be on a liberal scale, there will he an abundance ,of soft drinks and an enjoyable supper. The tickets for I lie hall are Is for children and ‘ls lor adults, the latter qf which also .admits two children. As the object of the .social is a worthy one. the committee hope to sec a record attendance.
