CHILDREN’S BALL.
A SUCCESSFCI. GATHERING . The children’s plain and fancy dress: ball, helu in the Garrison Hall last evening in aid of the ground fund of the Gisborne District School, was a* decided success, a success far beyond the anticipations of oven the members of the committee. It was impossible to estimate how many people were present. but the floor was crowded with happy, merry children and more stately ‘‘grown-ups.” Exceedingly good music was supplied by Mr. Wootton’s orchestra. and there were plenty of soft drinks and a. good and plentiful supper for all. The Mayor (Mr. W. D. Lysnar) was present, and witnessed the step-dancing competitions, which were* fudged by Mr H. DeC-osta. There were four entries for each—the Irish fig and sailor’s hornpipe. Miss Ivy Parker was first for the jig, with Miss Nellie Angland second; and Miss Ivy Parker and. Miss Pearce tied for the hornpipe. Tho ball concluded at midnight.
