SENTENCES OF THE ACCUSED

CALCUTTA, May 7
Baren, Arahinda Ghose’s brother, who confessed, and Dutt, who prepared the bombs, have been sentenced to death’ in the Alipur conspiracy case. Some others have been sentenced to transportation for life or to imprisonment for terms ranging from one to ten years. Arahinda Ghose and the rest of the accused were acquitted. The Judge held that Baren’s confession linked up the Muzzaffapur outrage and the attempts on Sir William Fraser and the Mayor of Chandarnagar with the conspiracy for collection of arms, military drill, and making bombs with: a wide fire-zone for street fighting, wa all of which indicated an intention to wage war against the Government. -
