LORD CHARLES BERESFORD’S ; - . views.

WISE AND PATRIOTIC SPEECHES

United Press Association —Copyright

LONDON, May 9

Lord Charles Beresford, speaking at the Liverpool TownJHall, after receiving the degree of Doctor of Laws, said the Committee now sitting on naval defence was as fair a committee as had been ever summoned before. If they ■found things were not *as they should be. which he had no doubt they would, there was no necessity for panic of recrimination, but “let ( us return to the 'old 1 -British style and lay the whole thing on the table, look at it?, see where it is wrong,, and calmly and quietly put- it right"without recrimination from parties or individuals.” 1 Lord Charles Beresford, in his speech at Southport Physical Training College, said he had great faith in Mr Asquith’s. committee. There would he many points destined to bocome public and. cause dissatisfaction, but let them ! bury party, get together, and put things right. No party wanted to see the foreigner here. He did not belong to tbo party in power, butrthey were taking a national view of naval affairs, and anything he could do to help them the would do to. the best of his ability. . What had happened was that we had deferred our liabilites and obligations. When an individual or a nation does that he or ij> must get money somewhere to put himself or. itself in the right.
