FOOTBALL.
POVERTY BAY RUGBY UNION
The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union was lieki in the Masonic Hotel last night. Present: Messrs H. E. Maude (chairman), W. Johnston, H. Bright, J. A. Eaton, G. K. Pasley, L. 0. Ingram* J. S: Wauchop, and E. L. Maude (hon. sec). Notification was received fr'om the secretary of the Te Kura Club,, that they would have a- junior as well as a senior team.
Permission was granted to the Gisborne High ’ School to play a practice match with the Gisborne School on Saturday, at 1.30 p.m., provided that entrance fee to the ground be paid by the competitors. It' was also resolved to? inform the applicants that schoolboys’ season tickets ' are available, and that on tbis occasion the school authorities bd responsible; for the taking of the gate up till ‘2.15 p.m. Permission was also granted to the Y.M.C.A. third fifteen to play the Defence Cadets on the same conditions. Messrs Ay. Johnston and H. Bright were j appointed a committee to attend to the matter of the rules, boundaries, etc., for the Waiapu sub-Union as requested by that body. ; Messrs H. Bright, J. Hay, and J. A. Eaton were appointed a committee to select the team to represent the Poverty Bay Union against the AYaiap/u subUnion at Tofoga Bay on the 24th inst. It was als<* decided that the Union pay all expenses of the tour. It was* decided that the third grade comoetition commence on Saturday, 22nd inst.'
Several small improvements to the ground were' authorised, and it was decided, to have the hedge cut at once. It was resolved that a letter of thanks, accompanied by a complimentary season ticket, be sent to Air. Geo. AVitters. who has generously given the use of hjs paddock for football purposes at Ma'kauri. . Permission Was given to the Muriwai Club to change the name of the club to that of the Takitimu Club. The question of grounds for the country competition was considered, having been referred to in a letter from the Muriwai Club. It was decided that the Union would consider the matter if the Muriwai-Club would notify the location of the alternative ground. It was resolved that the attention of the Referees 5 Association be drawn to the Union’s by-lav* regarding lists of players to be handed in to the secretary of the. Union after matches. Lists of players were passed for different clubs, and the question of a junior competition in the country was held over until next meeting. The town junior competition commences on Saturday next, and the. third grade competition. The junior match for the opening day will be Ivaiti-City 11. v. Y.M.C.A. 11.
