ASHBURTON, May 12. The Ashburton County Racing Club’s •autumn meeting commenced to-day, in ideal weather. The course, despite recent rains, was in very fair condition. There was a large atteAdance and good fields, and the racing generally was good. Sixteen bookmakers were" licensed at £ls 10s each. The totalisator receipts aggregated £3144, as against £3510 on the corresponding day last year. The following were the results: Longbeach Hack Handicap.—Montreal 1, Blythe Boy 2, Salaam 3. Four others started. Won by a head. Time, Imin 18sec.
Fairfield Welter Handicap.—Contender 1, Zetland 2, Ivanoff 3. Six others started. Won by half-a-length, Ivanoff four lengths away. Time, Imin 30 2-5 sec. *
Ashburton Cup.—Dabchick 1, Field Gun 2, Gwendolina 3. Three others started. Though the pace was hot at the first, Dabchick got his measure at the distance, and, drawing away, won comfortably by four lengths, Field Gun being three lengths ahead of the third horse. Time, 2min .12 2-ssec. Lagmhor Plate.—lngoda 1, Merry Lass 2, Miss Dorio 3. Won by three lengths. Time, lmin 3 3-ssec. Melrose Trot. —Bribery 1, Adventuress 2, Gary 3. Won by 50 yards, Gary a similar distance behind the second horse. Time, 3min 5 l-ssec. Trial Handicap.—Umeraboy 1, Claymore 2, Manchester 3. Six others started. Won by a length. Time, lmin 18 2-ssec. Grove Farm Handicap.—llarita T, Sea King 2, Volodia 3. Four others started. Won by two lengths, Volodia half-a-length behind the second horse. Time, lmin 16 3-ssec.

HAWERA, May 12. The Egmont Racing Club’s winter meeting' opened to-day. Th© following are the results: —
Railway Handicap.—Mulga Bill 1, Genuine 2 Clemency 3. Also started: Nicotine, Midian, Dr. Shimose Dervish, Rohaepotae, Castiglione, Wbare, and Tsushima. Tawhiti Scurry.—Sedgemoor 1, Redwing 2, Langshan 3. Also started: Wharekba, Saltpetre, Ambergris, Lady Heroine, Overdraft, and Park Lady. Time, lmin 6£see. Tongahoe Hurdles.—Somali 1, Maharanui 2, Taupo 3. Also started: Rangihaeta, Claremont, Auratus, Nova, and Golden Glow. Time. 2min o4£sec. Hawera Cup.—Lady Lucy 1, Mendip \ Paul 3. Also started: Research, Mallet, Coronetted, Shannon Lass, Velentine and Monkelier. About sixty yards from the post the winner made a wonderful run from the rear of several others, and won by half a length. Time, 2min 1 2-ssec. Ladies’ Purse. —Waione 1, Starboard 2, The Boyne 3. Also started: Handsome Paul, The Reefer, Sadie, Starlike, Linseed, and Pungahu. Time, lmin 51sec. Waihi Handicap.—Goodwin Park 1, Royal Youngster 2. North East 3. Also started: Kanewana, Marathon, Panlus, Maggie Paul, and Silva. Time lmin 50 l-ssec. Telegraph Handicap.—Redwing 1, Clemency 2, Guiding Step 3. Also started: Overtime, Toanga, Muskerado, Timothy, Dover Straits, Teroti, and Overdraft. Time, lmin 5 4-ssec.
