Northampstonshiro’s bowling analysis was as follows: —Smith 6 for 110, Wells 0 for 35, Thompson 5 for 108, East 0 for 60. , ~ The weather was glorious, and tho wicket fast. The attendance was fair. The Australians were four hours at tho . wickets. Play was fast and interesting. Bardsley retired after adding a single to his overnight score. He gave
a chance to Kingston in the slips in the same over. His leg side play was splendid. He was 100 minutes at the wickets, and made nine fourers. Cotter indulged in his usual free game. Northampton’s total was passed after 50 minutes’ play. Trumper’s innings lasted 90 minutes, his half-century appearing at the end of 80 minutes. He played sound, free cricket, and hit eight fourers. He fell in trying to pull Thompson, and was caught at midon. Armstrong, by free, all-round play, made 50 in. 59 minutes. During two hours’ at tho crease lie gave no chance. His score included eleven fourers. The Trumper-Armstrong partnership lasted 75 minutes, and added 100 to the total. The score when stumps were drawn was:

Total for six wickets 175 (Received May 12, 5.15 p.m.) The attendance after luncheon was ’OOO. Northampton’s first wicket fell at 25 and steady effective play by Kingston, Hey wood, and Thompson carried the Spore to 110 before the third wicket fell. A smart catch by Carter disposed of Kingston in Macartney’s first over. Noble’s first over proved fatal to Heywood, who had a life when one, Hartigan at second slip missing a catch off Cotter; otherwise he played a sound innings. Eighty-five minutes’ play sufficed to wipe off the arrears of the first innings. Carter showed excellent form. He got ride of Smith at the third attempt, and cleverly stumped Pool. Bardsley took Thompson with a catch when running.
MATA V. TOKOMARU. A match was .played between Mata and Tokomarti on Saturday last at Tokomaru and resulted in a win for Tokomaru by fifty-four runs. The Mata team was strengthened by the inclusion of several players who happened 'to be present on account of the Hospital Ball. Play started at noon and only one innings a side was played. The Tokomaru skipper, W. Oates, won the toss • and went to the wickets with J. Oates. "VV. Oates played a good sound innings for 52, including three sixes. G. Oates also played well, contributing 24, not out, and Fairlie, who- made 13, gave a fine exhibition of running between wickets. L. E. Cotterill, who captained the Mata team, was the only double figure scorer (12 not out) for Mata. Mesdames Coventry and Cotterill and Miss Wedge kindly dispensed luncheon and afternoon tea.
