The weather was fine and the wicket fast. The attendance was small. Gregory was suffering from a cold, and Whitty was fielding instead. Veils and Snell, with lively cricket, carried the overnight score to 217. Then V eils was brlliantly caught by Ransford, running, off O’Connor, the ball being taken low down at long-on. When he had scored 15 Wells gave an easy chance to O’Connor off Armstrong. The remainder were quickly disposed of, the innings closing for 235, leaving -the Australians 119 to win. The deficit was wiped off with the loss of one wicket. Bardsley and Hartigan, with 40 minutes’ free cricket, put on_ 62 before the latter was stumped. After lunch Noble assisted Bardsley in adding the balance. Bardsley was S 3 minutes at the wicket. He took au hour to make half-a-eentury. He was in excellent form. Hs score included seven tourers.
