The Ponsonby District Club was given permission to play not more than five matches in Australia by invitation or the Sydney Metropolitan Union in July, provided tlie manager of the tour be approved by the Auckland Union and an audited statement of receipts and expenditure be supplied to the New Zealand Union after the team’s return. McPherson (12) 22 beat IV. Hatcliffe (4) 16.—This match was the semifinal. ltatcliffo got first bloos, but McPherson with good play ran up a score, and with his handicap was 17 to 4 on the Bth head. On the 12th head Ratclilfe had reduced the gap, being 11 to 17. RatclifFe tried hard to overtake the leader, and on the 18th head required sto win. McPherson, however, waj not to he. denied, and scoring singles on the last two heads, won bv 6 points. McPherson now meets B. Hird in the final, which is to bo played on Monday

Bennett Cup. At the conclusion -of play the Match Committee met in reference to the Bennett Cup competition. It was resolved that as J. tS. Stormont had been absent ■from the district for some months, and was unable to play his games, that ho forfeit his game to J. Martin. In the C. F. Lewis v. J. J. Martin match, it was resolved that ns .arrangements had been made to play the game that afternoon, and as Martin had not attended, that the game be given to Lewis by default, the latter being in attendance.

The above decision thus places Martin and Hire! on an equality for the cup, with 15 wins and 3 losses each. The honors will now bo fought out between ..the two. 1 Tho Turanganui Club intend to have a field day on Monday (Empire Day), after which date the green will be closed to play for the season.

HOCKEY.

CITY (5) v., Y.M.C.A. (1). This match was tho first on the list, and was commenced shortly after the advertised time. City held the uppei hand almost all through the game, but there was hardly four goals difference between the teams. . .Friar, Day, Grinlinton, Armstrong, and Fox each notched a goal for the winners, while V-*I. C.A.’s score was obtained by Pine. Armstrong was a host in himself for City and was well .supported by Doyle, Grinlinton, and Day, while for the losers, Pine and Auld wore tlfe most(conspicuous for good play. Mr. R. Giant (Lvia Kaha) was the referee. "WEST END (3) v. KIA KAHA (3). This was a fast, interesting, and, as the scores indicate, closely contested mime. Neither side could claim much advantage, and the result was a fitting termination to the game. One of the foals scored bv West-End was awarded to them by the referee for obstruction in tho circle, and the others were scored bv Morse and Pirio. Grant, Murphy, and Pollock were responsible lor ivia Kalia’s goals, Pohock s being a too >! For West End, Olson McLaelilan. Pivie, and Bright played well, while the best of their opponents were I olio ck, Tabernacle, Grant, and "Garrett. Air. Armstrong (City) controlled the game.
