MINING.
THE NEW ALPINE MINE
(Special to “Times.”)
GREYMOUTH, May 21
The New Alpine mine, manager reports the following progress at the •mine for the week ending 18th May, 1909: —During the week the work was confined to stoping above No. 14 level. In the. stopes above this level the reef remains the same size as in last week’s report, except in No. 6 stope, where it Sias opened out to Oft. The reft, is •hero becoming flatter and shows fine •gold in breaking. No driving was done during the week, as the compressor and rock drill wanted ail overhaul. Two hundred and thirty-eight tons were ‘paddooked, making a total tonnage of •oflß. One man was started, at No. 5 to try and get a hole through into this level, to dam some water coming out, bo as to send it down to No. 7, as we lare short for haulage purposes with •the present storage. The heavy down‘pour to-day stopped us as, besides being unpleasant, it was dangerous, but, if the level timbers have not collapsed, one fine day should put a hole through.
