ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
MAN BURNT TO DEATH

ASHBURTON, May 20
A single man about 50 years of age ,was found burnt to death in the regains of a tent on Ituapuna estate, some miles beyond Mayfield, this morning. Deceaced lived by himself. He was engaged at a stone-picker on the estate, and when last seen yesterday was in a happy frame of mind. It is presumed that incineration was accidentally caused dining sleep. INQUEST. The inquest touching the death of James Walsh, the boy fatally injured at Wheatstone yesterday, was held before Mr. V. G. Day, Magistrate, without a jury to-day. A verdict was returned that deceased met his death through injuries received as the .result of being run over by a waggon drawn by a traction engine, no blame being attachable to anyone. The evidence showed that deceased was on the draw bar of the waggon, unknown to the driver, and while dismounting be slipped, and the wheel passed over him, inflicting shocking injuries, from which he died shortly afterwards.
HEAD SHATTERED BY GUNSHOT
GORE. May 21. A. Turnbull left his home at Waikaka on Saturday- for Waikai, and was not again heard of. The horse, saddled, was afterwards found, and the search party this morning found the body in a gully, near Waikaka, with the head shattered by a gun shot.
