EMPIRE DAY.
HOLIDAY ATTR ACTIONS
It appears that no military display can be held hero on Monday in honor of Empire Day. The day is only a partial holiday. It Avill be observed in offices and shops, but not in factories. As a large proportion of the members of the Gisborne Rifles and the Gisborne Defence Cadets are employed in factories, they would he unable to attend a parade hi the daytime if one Avere held. The East Coast Mounted Rifles will be breaking up their camp at Ala kauri, so, it is understood, they also Avill be unable to ;attend. No arrangement appears to have been made for the school cadets to turn out. The hockey matches will be played on Monday instead of Thursday, as there will be no haltholidav on that day next week Hie Mangatu sports are to take place at Whatatutu racecourse. A ‘dinner match” will be played on the golf links, and there is to be bowling all day on the greens of the Gisborne and luranganui Bowling Clubs. The.
