CONFERENCE *IN WELLINGTON

The following report of the Confeionce of the Society of Friends, ho,cl m Wellington, has been supplied:The Conference of the Society ot Friends was held in the Druids Hall, Wellington, from Bth to 12th instant It was called at the invitation of Dr Thomas Hodgkin, L.L.D.,. one of the leading members of the Society En» l nnd an eminent historian oi Ncu-castl’o-on-Tyne who is visiting, with lus wife and part of his family, the fnonc s throughout Australasia. Then visit is one ol Gospel l 9 ve and to encourage Friends generally. The Conference was opened every morning with devotional meetings. Most interesting and instrnc tive addresses were given by Di kin on "The Epistle to the “A Friends’ School in New Zealan , "Predestination ‘.‘George l ojc thc Founder of the Society, Ea ly Chi ns tian Worship, and The Div untj oi C |bout 60 Friends from Hokianga in the north, Dunedin in the south, M augamu in the west, Hawke's Bay m Hie oast, and other towns, were present at the Conference. Papers on the work of their missionaries in different parts or the world, farm life in New Zea.anc, from a spiritual standpoint, and tem perance work, more especially * "Friend’s colony, m NeiA Zealand were fully discussed. As a result of the latter a committee was appointed to consider the most suitable part where 10 to 20,000 acres can be obtained, and report to next Conference and the Homo Committee. Many young h needs it was reported at Home and in Canada, Avou’d be glad to settle m such a colony f provided for them. During the pe ; iod of the Conference a Peace Meeting aaas held in Hie Y.M.C.A. and resolutions sent to the Premier agam S tmn : ■mikoi-A- training.
