COLONIAL DELEGATES IN CANADA SPEECHES AND AN INTERVIEW. United Press Association —Copyright. OTTAWA, May 21. The Board of Trade at Ottawa presented the Australasian delegates with an address, emphasising the need of State-owned Empire cables. Mr Thomas (South Australia), replying, said that while Australasians were anxious for a close touch between the Motherland and the sister Dominions, they could not ignore the Interests of thte Eastern Extension Company. Mr I. W. iKirwin, Western Australia, and Mr Cohen (New Zealand) were among the chief speakers at a luncheon given by Mr Oliver, Minister of the Interior.

V The newspapers of Montreal enterthe delegates respectively at a .luncheon and banquet. Mr Thomas, interviewed, declared : ‘■'We propose to protect ourselves m our ■region, but are not less determined to help the Motherland to bring the navy to the. highest point of strength. It is certain that in the coming session of the Commonwealth Parliament our relations with the Empire in defence matters will bo a foremost subject.
