BOWLING.

THE GISBORNE CLUB. The green of the Gisborne Bowling Club was in very good playing * ider on Saturday afternoon. There was a considerable muster of members, sufficient being present to form two full rinks. The game at both these’ was very interesting and some exceedingly good play was witnessed. The following were the results: Spencer, Redstone, Ambridgc, Hon. J. Carroll (skip). 24, heat Wilson, Boulton, Paltridge, T. Clarkson (skip) 15. Benzie, Winkle, Kyme, Bright (skip) 24, heat Wootton. Gosnell, W. Pettic, Ponsford (skip) 16. To-day play is to begin on the green at 10 a.m., and will be continued throughout the day. The competition for the district shield is to he gone on with, and it is also intended to continue the contest for the Martin medals. The Committee of the Club trust that all members who have not fulfilled their engagements in connection with those two competitions will endeavor to do so today. TURANGANUI CLUB. On. Saturday morning the Match Committee of the Turanganui Bowling Club received a protest from J. J. Martin against the committee’s decision to award-the Martin-Lewis game in the Bennett Cup to Lewis, on account of Martin’s default. Martin, in his protest, pointed out that he had not arranged to meet Lewis. He had understood Lewis would he unable to he present, and had arranged a match on the Gisborne green. However the latter had informed him at 1.30 on Thursday that he was aide to play, but Martin stated he had made other arrangements, but would play him if time permitted afterwards. Under these circumstances he protested against the match being given against him. The committee then interviewed C. F. Lewis, who practically substantiated Mar*, tin’s statement,'hut said he could not ho present on Monday to play Martin, if the committee upheld the protest. Tinder these circumstances the Match Committee resolved to lay the mafter before the General Committee, a meeting of which, was held on Saturday af ternoon, when it was unanimous’y decided to uphold the protest, and that the match, be ordered to be played bv next Saturday, or forfeited, the ground being kept open spooieUy for that pur-, pose it having hope el lie "wise intended to close the green this afternoon.

To-day the final in the Handicap Singles will be played, when B. H;rd (2) meets VV. McPherson (12). A.full clay’s play is anticipated, and a good attendance is expected. Afternoon tea will be provided.
