GISBORNE CHESS CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING
The annual general meeting of the Gisborne Chess Club was held in the Club’s room at the Public Library on Saturday evening, at 7.30. There* was a good attendance of members: the president (Mr. W. F. Crawford) in the chair.
It was decided to ask His Worship the Mayor to become patron of the club. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr. W. F. Crawford; vice-president, Mr. H. A. King; lion. sec. and treasurer. Mr. J. W. Witty; committee, Messrs Blackburn, Bull, Rowley, and C. iSainsbury.
A letter was received from the lion, secretary of the New Zealand Chess Association (with which the Gisborne Club is affiliated) stating that the next meeting of the Association would be held on Monday, June 28th. It was resolved to appoint Mr. J. A. Connell as delegate for the club, and to request him to nominate Mr. W. F. Crawford as one of the vice-presidents of the Association. A letter was received from the lion, secretary of the Wairoa Chess Club asking if a telegraphic match could be arranged, six boards a-side. —It was decided to accept the challenge, and the lion, secretary was authorised to make the necessary telegraphic arrangements.
It was decided that for the ensuing season Tuesday and Saturday evenings be selected for play, and to inform any member not in attendance that as the Library Committee had put a telephone in the chess room, any member not being able to get to the chess room prior to the library closing at 9 o’clock could ring up and obtain admittance. Mr. C huul Sainsbury offered to donate a cup to be played for during the present season, on the American system. The offer was acccented with thanks. Mr. Sainsbury was appointed handicapper and controller of the games, and members were requested to hand in their names as competitors as soon as oossible. . . It was decided that persons wishing to join the Club be requested to give in their names as soon as possible, as it is the intention of the Club to endeavor to arrange a telegraphic match with Wellington, Auckland, and rapier at an early date. _ After the conclusion ot business several interesting games were played.
