BIGAMY.
A JUDGE’S COMMENT
(Per Press Association.)
WELLINGTON May 25
James Archer Crooks appeared before Mr. Justice Cooper for bigamy. It was stated that be had six children by His first wife and three by bis second. When probation was suggested by the prisoner's counsel his Honor said that he could, not for a moment entertain the idea that bigamy could be met by probation. Bigamy was a serious offence, which struck the root of society. His Honor made some scathing remarks on the facts disclosed by the evidence, and remanded the prisoner for further consideration.
