UNIVERSAL TRAINING.
The convincing arguments presented by Mr. M‘Nab to tlie crowded meetings here will confirm the views of those who have advocated universal military training, and will make many converts among those who have hitherto hesitated to believe that volunteer training is insufficient for the defence of the Dominion. The ex-Minister for Defence reluctantly came to this conclusion, and gave his reasons with convincing precision. The inadequacy of the volunteer system and its costliness were compared, with the efficiency and comparative cheapness of a universal system. From £250,000 annually for inefficiency to £360.000 annuallv ior efficiency ' would hot bo a crushing increase in the cost of defence.—Auckland "Herald.”
