Harry Pearce defeated Ben Thorough good, the former champion, in the. race on the Parramatta river for the championship of Australia and aside. (Received May 30, 4.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 30. Thorough good -won the choice of positions. Pearce .went ahead in tlie first few strokes. At a mile and a quarter Thoroughgood pulled up on ln« opponent, but could not head |um• Pearce going away again .and -oiling the faster stroke. ‘ Thoroughgood made desecrate efforts to overhaul him. but Pearce responded magnificently every time, and easily held his opponent to the finish.
